They are various kinds of shoe racks that are available on the market or you can have a customized shoe rack.
How to Build a Shoe Rack
Besides building a shoe rack by yourself gives you pleasure whenever you will take or put shoes from it.
In below I have shared 3 DIY shoe racks that you can make easily by following few steps!
Cardboard Shoe Rack
If you are looking for easy and affordable way to build a shoe rack then it is the right project for you! The things you will need –
- Cardboard boxes
- Glue or packing tape
- Scissors or cutting tool
Process: First you need to select box so take out all of your cardboard boxes. Then take a big box from there for base.
The big box should be sturdy and strong. Now using the other boxes stack them together in different ways and see which style is more preferable.
Next you need to reinforce the base so the foundation is strong.
Measure and cut the top of the base box so it will be flush with the upper boxes but leave the bottom in its original form and cut the sides diagonally to meet.
Take those pieces turn it around and shove them back down inside the base box.
Now take another big box that’s dimension is similar to base box and cut the corners off. Then, take these corner pieces and shove them inside the corners of the base box.
This way it will reinforce the base and makes it strong to support the upper boxes once the shoes are in. Cut one more corner, but this one will be smaller.
Place this on the center of the front opening of the base box, so it doesn’t collapse forward.
Now tape or glue them together as your desired style. Fill the shoe rack with shoes and done!
Wooden Crate Shoe Rack
We all got some wooden crate at the store room. Why not transform those into a nice shoe rack. The things you will need –
- Large Wooden crates
- Wood stain, color of your choice
- Paint brush
- Small wood screws
- Drill or driver
- Optional – (Sandpaper, Steel wool and Tack cloth)
Process: First you need to color the crates using wood stain of your choice. Use brush to put the stain on the crate then let it dry.
Now using the crates stack or assemble them together in different ways and see which style is more preferable for you.
For boots use the crate vertically and for other shoes use it diagonally. After that screw the crates together so that it can stay together and then add casters to the bottom so that you can easily move the rack out to sweep underneath.
If you want to make it look old then you can use sand paper and steel wool to do the job then wipe it off with tack cloth.
Once you are done with it put up your shoes and you will see how beautiful the shoe rack looks!
Ladder Shoe Rack
If you have small space but need to pile of a large number of shoes ladder shoe rack is just for you! You can easily keep it on the corner of your room or closet.
The things you will need –
- 6 long sticks (Cut 2 of them in half to get 4 long sticks and cut 4 of them in 16 small sticks)
- Nails and hammer
- Paint and brush
Process: First you need to make two different ladders. For the first ladder, mark the 2 long sticks with separation of 20cm and put a nail on the mark.
And for the second ladder, mark the 2 long sticks with separation of 15cm and put a nail on the mark. Put the short sticks vertically and the long stick on the top to push the nail through the middle of the short stick.
Do not push the nail all the way because we need to rotate it a little bit so that the short sticks have to be in a diagonal position.
Now we have the two ladders ready and it is time to put them together. By using 4 more short sticks we can balance the rack, so put 2 on the bottom and 2 on the top to make stable and strong.
Now rotate the steps a little bit of the ladders in order to give them a small slope so that it can hold the shoes diagonally.
The ladder with the sticks separated 20cm is the front of the rack and the other one is the back, so the front of the shoes will be lower than the back.
Now to paint the shoe rack use white as a base and then use any other color of your choice. After letting it dry hang all the shoes and done!
